Chances are that in your household, you have broken crayons laying around. Don’t’ throw them away, reuse them! In this post, you’ll learn how we can reuse broken crayons and melt them into cool stars!
Materials needed:
· Crayons
· Access to oven or toaster oven
· Star Molds

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 275 °F
2. Place crayons into molds
· Peel off all paper from crayons
· Break crayons into smaller pieces that are able to fit into molds
· Fill molds to top, leaving a little space on the top, so that crayons are not going melt over the edges of the molds when baking
· I usually like combining colors that are alike, or that make good color combinations (ex: red, orange, and yellow)
· Tip: Adding white to the bottom of the mold really adds brightness to the crayon in the end (just 1-2 small pieces)
3. Place molds into oven
· This also works in a conventional oven
· Be sure to put the molds on top of aluminum foil just in case the crayons melt onto the sides
· Let them bake for 10 – 15 minutes (depending on how small or large your molds are)
· To make sure all crayons have melted, poke through the melted crayons with a toothpick or a skewer, if all the pieces have not yet been melted, put back into oven and check every 5 minutes
· Make sure that crayons are over baked, if over baked, then the crayons all mix with each other and create one solid color, and they will not have the swirl effect on the side
4. Let it cool
· Make sure that crayons completely cool down before taking out of mold and used
· This usually takes about 2-3 hours at room temperature and about 1 hour in the refrigerator
· Once they cool, pop them out of the molds and see what your designs look like on the back!
· Use these stars to draw, color, write, etc.!
You can really do this project with any kind of mold shape or all kinds of sizes! You can even use regular cupcake liners, just be careful about the ones that are just paper, because then the crayons will stick onto the paper. Just be sure that the molds are oven safe and remember that the smaller the mold, the less time it will need to bake.
