Director's Message

This last month has been a whirlwind! We have really appreciated the learning and kindness that our community has shown us. A big thank you to the South San Francisco Police and Fire services for coming to show the children their vehicles and teach them about their jobs. Thank you also to our in house US postal worker Sam Picazo (Valentino’s dad) for coming to teach us about how mail and packages travel around the world and how he makes sure it makes it to our door. It is so great to be part of this community.

Program Highlights

Engagement Activities

This month, we’re celebrating the Halloween season with lots of pretend play, dress-up fun, jack-o’-lanterns, and bats! We’ll also be exploring the fall season and enjoying some hands-on pumpkin investigations. After seeing the police motorcycle, police car, and fire truck, the Pine and Elm classes have become very interested in transportation. So they’ll be learning more about different types of vehicles this month. Meanwhile, the Elm and Oak classes will also begin exploring the solar system. It’s sure to be a fun and engaging month full of curiosity and discovery!

Professional Development

We’re looking forward to our upcoming Staff Development Day on October 13! That morning, we’ll be hosting the other Happy Hall Preschool teachers here at Dolores Way for a joint training session. This session will focus on strategies for effectively integrating children with challenging behaviors or special needs into our programs. After the morning training, teachers will return to their own classrooms to continue their work and apply what they’ve learned.

Community Events

It was so great to see so many at our Learning in Action events. I really enjoyed having Back to School and Learning in Action merged. I hope it was helpful to learn about our goals for the class and then experience activities that we do to help build those skills.. I know the children loved showing you all the fun and learning they do at school.

On October 31 at 3:30pm we will celebrate Halloween with a special afternoon of Trick-or-Treat and snacks with you. Please bring your child to school either dressed in their costume or with it in a labeled bag. If they chose to wear the costume a second set of clothes is helpful incase they want to change. After nap time we will make sure they are all dressed and ready for our event. Please come at 3:30 for spooky songs and to enjoy the decorations before we trick or treat at 3:45-4:30. We will have a pumpkin pie snack table available as well.
