What's Inside

Message from the Executive Director

November brings a noticeable shift in our programs. Students settle deeper into routines, friendships strengthen, and our teams focus on creating calm, predictable spaces as the holiday season picks up. This month can feel busy for families, and children often show it in their energy, moods, or need for extra support.
At Happy Hall, we’re paying close attention to regulation, transitions, and connection. Our life skills work is front and center, especially patience, cooperation, and empathy. These skills matter even more as schedules change and excitement builds.
Thank you for being part of our community. Your partnership helps us create environments that feel steady, supportive, and joyful for every student, from our youngest learners through middle school.
Rachel Heck, Executive Director
Announcements
Family Enrichment Program
This month, we’re focusing on family engagement. Across our programs, families have shown a strong interest in connecting with one another and building a sense of community beyond the school day. To support that, we’re launching a new Family Enrichment Program.
The goal is simple: bring families together for workshops or activities that are created and led by parents. Happy Hall will provide the childcare so adults can fully participate. Sessions can be practical, social, or interest-based. Examples include parenting discussions, cultural celebrations, hobby groups, or skill-building workshops.
If you’re interested in helping shape this program or joining the planning group, please email shelley@happyhall.com. We want this to be built with families, not just for them.
Program Expansions
We’re excited to grow with the needs of our families. Expanding our age groups allows siblings to stay together in one community and gives families more continuity and support throughout the early years.
Dolores Way now welcomes children starting at 18 months, offering a warm, structured environment designed for toddlers who are ready for more social interaction, routine, and hands-on learning.
Santa Inez is preparing to open an infant classroom serving children beginning at 6 months old. This space will focus on nurturing care, connection, and early developmental foundations.
We anticipate the Santa Inez infant classroom opening in early January.
To join waitlist, email info@happyhall.com.
Camps
Camp Happy Hall continues to be one of our most popular programs, and many families plan their seasons around our sessions. Camps offer a mix of hands-on learning, movement, creativity, and community experiences that students look forward to every year.
Registration for Camp Happy Hall Winter Camp is now open. Winter Camp is a great option for students who thrive on structure and connection during school breaks.
Summer 2026 enrollment will open soon, and we encourage families to register early. Our summer programs often fill quickly due to high demand, returning families, and our school partnerships.
Camps give students a safe, familiar place to spend their days while exploring new interests and building friendships across ages. For more information, visit www.camphappyhall.com.
Please notes, Camp Happy Hall is not affiliated with the district and is separate from our Expanded Learning Camps in Millbrae.

Director's Message
These past two months have gone by in a blur, and it’s hard to believe the end of the year is already approaching! It has been such a full and joyful season at Happy Hall. We have been learning so much and talking about how thankful we are for our families and our Happy Hall friends.
Program Highlights
Engagement Activities
This month we explored music, autumn weather, changing leaves, and of course, turkeys! In Pine class, children learned about musical instruments and even made their own maracas, while Ms. Alyssa introduced the excitement of playing the kazoo. Oak class dove into different types of instruments and musical styles. In Elm, Ms. Rosa had the children dancing, clapping, and singing in both English and Spanish. Engaging with rhythm and music helps children develop body control, motor coordination, pattern recognition, sequencing skills, and so much more!
In December, we’ll shift our focus to winter weather and cozy seasonal activities. We’ll also learn about the many different holidays celebrated this time of year. If your family has a favorite tradition or story for the holiday season, we would love for you to come in and share it with us!
Community Events
Our Happy Hall-O-Ween Trick-or-Treat Party was a highlight, and we’re so grateful to all the families who came dressed up and ready to have fun. Your energy made the day truly unforgettable.
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who joined us for our Friendsgiving celebration. The delicious dishes you contributed and the spirit of community you brought made the event incredibly special. We’re so appreciative of your participation and generosity.

Director's Message
Thank you to all the parents who came out to our Happy Hall-O-Ween event and helped their preschoolers enjoy the carnival games created by our school-age students, it was wonderful seeing everyone celebrate together. As we move through November, our preschoolers have been learning all about leaves, fall, and the importance of being thankful. In the classroom, we’ve been focusing on building life skills, encouraging independence, and strengthening the friendships that help our children grow each day.
Program Highlights
Engagement Activities
This month, preschoolers explored leaves, fall, and being thankful through lots of hands-on experiences. They went on a leaf hunt around the playground to collect leaves for their fall leaf wreaths, created handprint leaves for our Thankful Tree, and enjoyed making Thanksgiving-themed crafts such as Q-tip painted corn and “pumpkin pie” art. Our letters of the month were L for leaves and Y for yellow, which tied in perfectly with our seasonal activities.
Community Events
Next Wednesday, we’re excited to welcome families to our fall family event! Families will join their preschoolers for a cozy afternoon of seasonal fun—making apple pie in a cup, creating a festive turkey craft to take home, and exploring our fall-themed centers filled with hands-on activities.
We’re also excited to share that our winter-themed family event will be held on December 17th at 4 PM! Families will enjoy hot cocoa, winter crafts, and cookie decorating as they make fun memories together to celebrate the season.
Student Achievements
Our preschoolers have been working hard on building and using their life skills each day in the classroom. This month, we have been especially focused on caring and cooperation, which support our theme of being thankful and strengthening friendships. It has been wonderful to see the children practicing these skills during play and daily routines.
The children are also excitedly working to fill up their gumball life skills chart, earning dots each time they use one of our six life skills. Once the chart is full, we’ll celebrate with a special party day to recognize all of their hard work!
Reminders
If your child will be absent, please notify us in any of the following ways:
Call or text us at (650) 355-5026 (you may leave a voicemail).
Email us at Ortega@happyhall.com.
Use the absence option in the 1Core app.
Or let us know in advance, and we can mark your child out.
As we enter the cold and flu season, please take a moment to revisit our sick policy. If your child becomes ill with something contagious, we ask that you inform us so we can post a notice and help keep all families healthy and informed.
With the rainy season upon us, it’s also a great idea to keep an extra pair of shoes and socks at school for your child in case of puddle splashing. Thank you for helping us keep all children safe and comfortable!

Director's Message
These last two months have flown by, I can’t believe how close we are to the holidays and the end of the year! It has certainly been a busy and exciting time on campus. We absolutely loved celebrating our Happy Hall-O-Ween Trick-or-Treat Party, and I want to extend a big thank-you to all the families who joined us, dressed up, and had a blast together. It was truly a memorable day!
Our classrooms have been diving deep into curriculum, settling into routines, and growing in so many wonderful ways. As we move into the Thanksgiving season, we look forward to celebrating with our peers here at school and also hope you enjoy special time at home with your loved ones. It really is such a special time of year.
Program Highlights
Engagement Activities
Our classrooms have been full of hands-on learning and exploration this month!
In our preschool rooms, children have been diving deeper into early literacy and math skills by continuing to practice letters, numbers, tracing, and early writing on their planned worksheets. They’ve also been strengthening both fine and gross motor skills through cutting, gluing, and a variety of sensory-rich activities. From bead stringing and tweezing to exploring kinetic sand, our preschoolers have been busy building coordination, creativity, and confidence.
In our toddler rooms, we continue to focus on building independence and supporting overall developmental growth. Toddlers have been practicing important everyday skills such as handwashing, sitting for circle time, using utensils on their own, and lining up during transitions. Alongside these routines, teachers are introducing the foundational concepts of early learning (numbers, letters, colors, shapes) and helping toddlers expand their language and vocabulary through songs, stories, and meaningful interactions.
And of course, outdoor play remains a big part of each day for all classrooms. Our teachers use this time to nurture social-emotional growth by encouraging friendships, guiding cooperative group play, supporting turn-taking, and helping children navigate peer interactions in positive ways.
Professional Development
Our Professional Development Day on Monday, November 10th was a valuable opportunity for our teaching team to prepare for the second half of the school year. Teachers spent the day thoughtfully reviewing and updating their curriculum, organizing their classrooms, and ensuring materials are ready to support upcoming learning goals.
They also began assembling student portfolios in preparation for our January Parent-Teacher Conferences, allowing them to reflect on each child’s growth and document meaningful progress. This dedicated time helps us continue providing a high-quality, engaging learning experience for all of our students.
Reminders
Friendly reminder for our families with children still in diapers to please continue bringing in your monthly supply of diapers and wipes. If you feel your child is ready to begin the potty-training journey, please connect with your child’s teacher before getting started. Together, you can create a consistent plan that supports your child’s needs both in the classroom and at home. Consistency is key to a successful potty-training experience, and we’re here to support you every step of the way!

Engagement Activities
Elementary Programs
This month, we kicked off our curriculum by continuing our exciting exploration of space, where children are learning about planets, stars, and the vastness of our universe through hands-on projects and creative play.
In the coming weeks, we’ll transition into our next themes — Weather & Seasons and Sounds & Music. During our Weather & Seasons unit, children will engage in activities that explore sunlight, shadows, wind, and the changes we see in nature as the seasons shift. They’ll observe how weather affects our daily lives and the world around us.
Our Sounds & Music theme will introduce children to melodies, rhythm, and the many types of sounds we experience — not just in music, but also in the natural world. Through songs, movement, and listening games, children will have opportunities to express themselves creatively while discovering how sound connects us to our environment and to each other.
Next month, our themes will include Wonders of the World and Reactions and Mixtures. Children will explore both natural and man-made wonders from around the globe, learning about their unique features, history, and significance. In Reactions and Mixtures, children will engage in hands-on experiments to discover how different elements and ingredients interact with one another, exploring scientific reactions and, in some cases, creating tasty treats along the way.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Haunted House & Potluck such a fun and delicious event. The children had a wonderful time and truly enjoyed all the holiday excitement. As we move through November, we are continuing to celebrate this season of gratitude by focusing on friendship, kindness, giving, and how we can help make our community a better place for everyone. Alongside our regular curriculum, we are supporting Social-Emotional Learning with activities that build positive peer relationships, such as playing board games with new partners, writing kindness notes, and participating in group movement games. We are also encouraging children to form connections outside their usual friend groups by using fun, random team-selection methods like numbers, favorite things, or word prompts.

This past month, some members of our Administrative Team attended a camp training and returned with useful tools for developing “regulation stations.” These stations provide children with calming materials and strategies they can use when they are feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty participating with their group.
Our staff and I will be working to create these stations for each group so that children can take a short break while still remaining close by in a safe and supportive space. The goal is to help children regulate their feelings while continuing to feel connected to their group, giving them just the space they need to rejoin successfully and feel included.

As we move through November, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to all of our families. Your support over the past month as I transition into my new role as director has meant so much. It’s been wonderful to continue watching the children in our program grow, learn, and strengthen their friendships within our community.
This month, we’ve focused on being thankful, building stronger friendships, and appreciating the little moments each day. As we look ahead to December, we’re excited for winter activities, festive celebrations, and cozy times with the kids. Thank you for being such an important part of our Happy Hall family!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for our annual Happy Hall-O-Ween event! Our Group 3 kids worked so hard creating carnival games for our preschool and younger school-age friends. They showed such pride in their work and were caring and encouraging as they taught the younger children how to play the games.
Next month, we look forward to our winter-themed party for all Happy Hall families on Wednesday, December 17th, starting at 4 PM. Families can enjoy hot cocoa, cookie decorating, and fun winter-themed crafts together. It’s sure to be a cozy and festive celebration for everyone!
Professional Development
We are beginning the process of moving our Group 3 kids into the E4 portable next to the Group 2 portable. Previously, they were in the portable across the way, which felt far from the other groups and did not have a bathroom, meaning children had to leave the room to use the restroom or get water. We’re excited to give them a new, great space that is closer to the other groups and includes access to a bathroom and sink, making daily routines more convenient and enjoyable. Our former staff area will be relocated to the portable across the way. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make these updates to better support our program and the children.
Student Achievements
Groups 1 and 3 continue to work hard putting our life skills into practice every day, earning punches on their punch cards toward prizes from our prize boxes. Group 2 is also doing a wonderful job demonstrating life skills, using a sticker chart to track their progress and earn rewards. We’re excited to introduce a “Star Student” for each group starting in the new year, once we get through the holiday hustle, to celebrate individual achievements and highlight each child’s hard work!

Recently, some members of the Happy Hall team attended a conference and came back with wonderful insights about creating classroom spaces that support children’s development. You may begin to notice small changes as we start implementing these ideas. I’m excited for you all to see these enhancements take shape over the next few weeks!
Student Achievements
The children at Happy Hall are officially settled in, and our new combined community is thriving! It has been wonderful to watch friendships grow as children from both schools learn, play, and explore together each day. We’ve seen so much progress in how they communicate, solve problems, and support one another.
At Happy Hall, we talk often about what it means to be a kind and caring friend by showing respect, listening to others, and practicing compromise. The children are truly becoming Happy Hall Super Stars as they build these important skills.
We are continuing our Star Student program, congratulations to our latest shining stars!
Reminders
Please remember to notify Happy Hall whenever your child will be absent on a scheduled day. When a child does not arrive as expected, a teacher must leave the group to look for them. We will check with the school and then follow up with a text or phone call to confirm your child’s whereabouts. Staying informed helps us keep your child safe.

Recently, some members of our Admin team attended a conference where we learned new strategies for creating supportive classroom spaces that help students manage stress and regulate their emotions. One idea we’ve started implementing is providing a designated calm-down area. Lately, we’ve been allowing students who need a moment to relax or reset to use the couch area, where they can take a break and return to activities when they feel ready. This approach has been successful so far for students who become overwhelmed, and we plan to continue using this strategy moving forward.
