Director's Message
Hello April! The month began with the excitement of Spring Break and Camp at Happy Hall. I hope wherever you spent the first week, you had a chance to reconnect with your children and recharge in some way.
We had an incredible week packed with enjoyable activities and a fantastic group of campers. Our days were brimming with movement games like "Protect the Egg," "Tic Tac Toe Frisbee," and "Hula Hoop Row-Sham-Bo." We also engaged in STEAM activities, such as butterfly painting, oil pastel rainy day art, and making fluffy and clear slime (which were absolute favorites!). Additionally, we dedicated time to social-emotional learning (SEL) connections through daily games and thought-provoking questions.
But above all, we relished simply being together and seizing every moment. Here's to many more joyful days ahead as we fully embrace the spirit of Spring!
Program Highlights
Engagement Activities
This month, we're delving into two exciting themes: "Movie Magic" and "Time Travelers." In "Movie Magic," participants will engage in behind-the-scenes activities to gain insight into the filmmaking process. Meanwhile, "Time Travelers" will feature nostalgic games from the "Olden, Golden Days," offering children a glimpse into the pastimes enjoyed by their parents in their youth. I'm eager to witness the children's enthusiasm as they embrace these activities.
In addition to these themes, we'll also enjoy some fun spring-related activities, including the beginnings of gardening and creating spring flower art. It promises to be a vibrant and enriching month ahead!
Professional Development
During Spring Break, we provided valuable professional development opportunities for our staff, focusing on Child Guidance and offering an overview of our Summer Camp preparation. We're thrilled to witness our staff implementing their training with the children in our program and to see the enthusiasm building around the upcoming Summer Camp. It's exciting to see our team's dedication to enhancing the experience for both staff and children alike.
Community Events
I had the pleasure of attending this year's MEF Gala alongside some of my colleagues, and it was truly a fantastic experience. I was deeply impressed by the incredible level of support and contributions that this community offers for the children within the MESD. Your generosity is truly remarkable, and I am sincerely proud and grateful to be a small part of such a dedicated community, committed to the well-being of our children and the betterment of our community.
Looking ahead, mark your calendars for April 17, 2024, as we eagerly anticipate being part of the Block Party hosted at Taylor Middle School. We hope to see you all there for what promises to be a wonderful event!
Reminders
Please ensure your child brings a jacket daily, as the weather can still be cooler on some days despite the improving conditions. We enjoy spending more time outdoors with the longer daylight hours.

If your child will be absent, kindly notify us before 1:30 pm via email, 1Core, or phone so we can keep track of their whereabouts.

From May 6 to 10, we're excited to celebrate Staff Appreciation Week! I will be showing gratitude to our dedicated staff with special treats and an evening event at our main site. Additionally, I'll be sharing their favorite things for parents to view. Feel free to join us in showing your appreciation to them with a thank you note, small gesture, or treat.
